Hi! I came to Liberia in August 1963 with my patents - Knud & Else Albjerg. We lived in F29 until 1965 where we moved to F7. In '66 I left Liberia for boarding school. My parents moved to Buchanan in '66 and left Liberia in 1968.In 1984 I came back to Liberia to work at the Power Plant in Buchanan. A lot had changed during the years, but it was nice to be back. I left in '86.I still see Alan Schollar regularly. He is still in Liberia, working for ITC Bank in Monrovia, but will probably return to UK this spring. If any body is interested I'll be happy to pass on any messages for him.

I used to consider Liberia my second home, and we actually had in mind to retire in Liberia after Lamco, but unfortunately the civil unrest put a stop to that. I would very much like to get in contact with our liberian friends and colleagues from the time I built the liberian telephone net during the 60th and the 70th as well as all our friends and colleagues in Lamco during the 80th.

I m writing cause the other time i was here on the site I wrote a private commant. I just want to write that I left my heart in Yekepa were I grew up and spend my childhood. We ( Carina,Gisela,I,My parents Ulla and Bror) Came 1960, lived and stayed in Liberia back and forth till 1981. My parents came back to yekepa 85-89 and left cause of the big revolution. I have such good memories of our stay and thinking of how it is today and then hurts. Liberia was a paradise and I know many agrees to that. So hopefully one day we can go back and maybe for the reeunion meeting, lets see. I want to say hello to everyone who remembers me or us and feel free to E-mail me. c ya all Liberian friends. (As some can remember I also lived in Liberia for many years. My sis and I(Gisela + I Susanne) Have wondered were all our friends from Yekepa Nimba disappeared to all over this world. I do have some contact with a few of them but not all. I would love to hear from the ones who knows us. Get in contact to me and let me know. Heidi, you know who I am. Take care. Johan have two boys, Benjamin and Daniel together with Suzan Jonsson, now living in Stockholm. Amanda, now 27 years old has a boy, Alexander 1,5 years old and live with her boyfriend in Göteborg. She works at an attorney´s office. Selinda, adopted by us in 1981 will soon celebrate her 19th birthday. She was born a Grebo girl but unfortunately we no longer stay in contact with her Liberian family. Both Stina an I are still working as teachers. Stina in Kullaviksskolan, our local school, and I am teaching at the University of Göteborg, the P.E.-teacher training department. We still keep in touch with many friends from our time in Liberia and remember the years in that lovely country with great joy!

Hi Heidi. What a fantastic site! I lived in Yekepa from 1964-69 age 10 - 16! Those were wonderful years. I remember the B-mess where we kids had our own Club. Yngve Westerdahl and I ran it when we were in 9th grade (3 students). It was also at the B-mess, in 1968, where I met my wife Alita. It would be fun to hear from long lost friends from all over the world! See you in 2005! Michael and Alita.

Great site, great memories, great place and even greater people. I know I speek for everyone who was lucky enough to spend time in Liberia when I say it was the best there ever was and ever will be. I wish you all well in what ever you are doing and hope we will all meet again some day. (Hidie, How are you. Its been nearly 20 years since we last saw each other. It was realy great to read your home page, those memories of Liberia will stay with all of us forever. The most amazing thing about living and growing up in Liberia is that you can never forget the place, the smells, the people, the weather, everything seems frozen in my mind. Every morning when I get up the first thing I think of is Liberia, in the night when i go to bed the last thing I think of is Liberia. Over the years these thoughts have not got stopped but have remaind with me and when things havent gone to well they have been a great sorce of comfort. When ever I talk to my family and others who were lucky enough to have lived there, they all seem to agree with what I have just written. I hope that through the internet, we Liberians can all keep in touch and hopefully one day reunite. Liberia is still the most important part of my life and I belive it always will be. Thank you for taking the time to set up this page and bringing back all those wonderfull memories for me. Please pass on my best wishes to your mum, dad and brother for me. Over the years I have thought about you all. Tell your brother that Michael and I still call him Joker. My mun and dad were realy happy to read your page, they called me straight away and told me about it.They heard about it from Berni Osbourne, his doughter Vicky has sent you an e.mail which is on your page. I hope to here from you soon Best wishes Vince Benjamin.)

Hello Heidi: My sister connected me to your site. I am now a Martin living on the east coast of Canada but I used to go by Berry. Hard to believe that it was so long ago. I have very fond memories of growing up in Liberia and especially of all the wonderful diverse people we were fortunate to grow up with. Lots of good times at the Nautilus club on Friday afternoons, Furtemarks beach and ofcourse the golf course where we spent most of our time while dad golfed. The dances weren't that bad. I have some great photos of the crowd we hung with and school pictures. My husband is having them scanned at work and I will forward them to you. I see so many names that are still familiar to me. You have set up an excellent site. We were in Buchanan, Loop 2 from 75-79. Take Care and hope to hear from anyone wishing to contact me.

Heidi: Great idea and quite a coincidence to find this Liberia site. Yekepa as a mining town came into being after my time with LAMCO. I worked as a geologist with the company, first a few weeks in Putu, in early 1956, then through to the northern spring of 1962 in Nimba. We lived all these years in Geologist's Camp, a wonderful place with a tremendous view except for the rainy season, when the clouds went through the camp. From 1962 to 1965 I went on to work with Gränges in Stockholm, another seven years with Svenska Diamantbergborrnings AB, based in Sundbyberg, Sweden, finally for nearly twenty years through 1990, with UNICEF, two years and one military coup in Santiago, Chile, the rest as Senior Advisor for Water Supply and Sanitation, based in New York. Now with my wife Malle and two dachshunds, we live in Princeton, New Jersey, USA, since we have our grandchildren in the United States. Am writing my memoirs with a lot of Liberia and LAMCO in them. Here space is to small to render homage to all old friends, ranging from Lasannah Dunbar and Old Man Monday (Mamadu Nyafor from Putu), Samuel Gbeyi, Peter Nimba, Arthur Sherman of the Bureau of Mines, and his brother Robert, to Jan Offerberg, Nicke Rahm, Herbert Boye, Lasse Gutke, Johnston Avery, Börje Hjortzberg-Nordlund and hundreds of others. Louise Alston, whose brother was the late and great Gabriel Dennis, Foreign Minister of Liberia. Louise went along with him to San Francisco at the inauguration of the United Nations in 1945, had Mr. Vjatyeslav Molotov as her dinner companion. Or, as old Sandy Clark, the discoverer of the Nimba ores used to begin his endless tales of his life in Africa by saying: 'Bastards I Have Met, Or Memoirs Of A Mining Engineer, Volume Three!' Greetings, and looking forward to hear from old, old friends. Ah, sugarwater olden time! N'gea: Bawo! Martin G. Beyer.

I was born in Philadelphia, and shortly after, my mother and I went back home. My grandfather was/is a pastor in the Epis. church. We lived all over Liberia. I came back to the states in 1983. I was still very young, but I remember. I remember.

I only recently "discovered" this website and must say I was very surprised and impressed to see so many people still emotionally involved with "their" Liberia. It was really nice to see the names of people I knew and especially the pictures. I only attended the "Swedish School" (old camp) in my first year in Buchanan and did the rest of my education at home through correspondence courses, so I do not remember many of the names of those in the International school photos. However I did recognize some of my old buddies, like Gunnar Coliander, with whom I got into a lot of mischief at times. I had a chance to visit Liberia in 1976 again and I stayed for a few days with Max and Seria Braun (1st loop). However all the people I knew had left by then, still it was interesting to see the place again. I showed your site to my parents (Theo and Riet van Cappellen) who since have passed the info on to other ex Liberians, like Teun and Siska Ruighaver. I think that people for that generation remember even more names and places. We have searched our old photo files and will soon mail some you some. Best regards and keep up this good work.

After reading your wonderfull guesbook,I can see that the majority of entryes are from Yekepa and employes from the early sixties are rare.I arrived October 62 by a small plane From Monrovia to Buchanan,at that time the railroad to Nimba where under construction, the breakwater in Buchanan where very short and of course no cardumper to receive ironore.I worked at the point near ligthouse beach,in a very primitive Garage, and somtimes we had to go home because the place became flooded in the rainseason I believe all Lamco employees remember names like Eagles nest Star bar Karl and Karin and for the very early of you Question bar.Yes we where young! I remember the Nautical club whith whaterskiing, sailing and diving. My favourit activity was fishing in Saint Jhons river,we caught many Barracudas and Groupers(my biggest weighed in at 13kg).My favourite meal is and was a dish called Liberian country chopI am shure you all miss this wonderfull meal.I left Buchanan in 1970,and would like to Know what happend since Lots of greetings Bob Christensen Finlandsvej 12 5500 Middelfart Denmark.

This site has helped bring back some memories. I was only there for a year but I made a great friendship with Stig Carlson. We both had pellet guns and would go off 'hunting'. I wonder where he is now? Perhaps someone reading this may know and let me know. The class photo 67/68 Grade 8 brings memories back too of the people I had a great time with. I look at the latest photos of the pool I spent many hours in and feel sad that it and the whole community is gone. I believe the idea was for Liberians to take over eventually. I wish they could have. Heidi, thank you for creating this site, you have done a great job. I will try and find our photos and see if any are worth posting.

Well i used to live in Yekepa from Apr 75 to Apr/May 78. I was in grade 4 when we arrived. I don't remember many people from their, but i do remember Gisela and Suzanne Anderson (not sure of the correct spelling), When i get a moment i will see if Robert (my brother ) can scan some of the pictures i have from there and show me how to send them to you. One of your pictures at the Junior Golf thing looks like it might be me. In those days i won a few trophies - mostly because my parents forced me to take golf, just because they liked it. I hated it then, now if it was only a little cheaper i would play more. I remember a few memorable things from there, Like the time my father was getting ready to go to work and was just about to put his boots on, but then said to our houseboy wash them first. Good thing because inside was a green mumba snake. The other when a bunch of families were going to cross over the ivory coast and this boa was massive. I also remember one boy asking if he could french kiss me (at age 10 - 11) and i said sure, i went over to the boy and rubbed my nose against his. I thought that's what was a french kiss, did the guy ever laugh, when i found out it involved lips and tongue ....gross. I believe we were the only Canadian family at that time that lived in Yekepa. I also remember we had our house broken into. About 10 years or so ago i got a call in Brampton from a girl who kept asking me to guess who she was, i could never guess, it ended up being Gisela and Suzanne... They were at the time hoping to come to America to me a rich man. I wonder if that every came true. I remember next door to us was a Maria Mathiesen of something like that. Also an Olga who left a year or so before us but lived on the same street. I also remember an Ingrid. For a while we did write back and forth, but their english was not good and my swedish was horrible. I used to be able to speak it , but as time passed and not having anyone to talk to in swedish..it just went ... Anyways i thank my brother for passing this on to me. We do live together in brampton. And hope to receive a reply

Hello everybody! It has been really nice to sit here and read all your messages! I lived in nimba from 1965 to 1985, first in F105 and later in F53. I attended E-school from 1st to 9th grade, Mrs. McCritty and Mrs. Milton are some of the teachers I remember well. As a matter of fact, Mrs Milton had such a bad reputation among the students that I used to have nightmares every summer in case she was going to be my next class teacher. When I finally did get Mrs. Milton, she turned out to be one of the best teachers I ever had!! After 9th grade I started to work at the stables in private valley, where I gave riding lessons to a lot of people, and took care of my horse, Sheriff. If any one knows what happened to the horses I would really like to know. I met my husband, Todd, in 1979 at Facias Bar and Disco in P-market, our first daughter was born in Lamco hospital in 1983, we moved to Norway 1985, our second daughter was born here in 1989 and we are still married. Please, feel free to kontact me!

Heidi!Greetings from an oldtimer. I worked with your dad in CSS . You have grown quite a bit since that time. I started my work with LAMCO/CSS in 1966 and left for good 1980. I left for a job with UN in 1975 but returned home to Liberia in 1977. I think this website will be a great meetingplace for long lost friends.

This is a fantastic website! I lived in Liberia, Yekeba as a child between 1979-81, my father Bengt Eriksson worked for Lamco. I went the International school until second grade and I remember my teacher Mrs Bingham very well. I have very fond memories of my time in Liberia, the golfcourse (where we went spiderspotting), the swimming pool and also the cinema for a dollar. The kids in my class came from different parts of the world and I´m sorry to say that I don´t know where any one is today. Dennis from Holland, Richard Taylor from England, Linn a norweigan girl, Sandra a good friend of mine, Jennifer who always invited everybody for her birthday parties(all the children got presents to bring home and i remember the barbiedoll), Jonathan. Ofcourse there were many more but memories fade. Thanks Heide for a great site!

Hi Heidi ! Nice homepage. I lived in Yekepa 1966-69 (in F55) Nearly next door to Peter Thejll. My parents returned to Buchanan during the period 1975-80. I visited them a few times then. They went home shortly after the revolution. I have many fond memories of Liberia. When I got home i started playing drums and have done so ever since. Right now I´m playing in Black Paddy, a band where we mix african and Irish music. I used to be a professional musician, but now I lead a group of environmental workers (Miljöligan). Take care ! Hi Heidi! Great job you've done with the Liberia page. I think and hope that more liberia related persons will find it and report, I think that we all who grew up in Liberia have a lot of joyous child hood memories in our hearts. Sad though about its late history. Maybe it would be a good thing with a history page were we could go and fill in recollections about our child hood, offcourse the elders might want to join in. By the way I lived in Liberia between 6/6-67 and summer 1974 I lived on EU 31 and were close nieghboors to the Benjamins whom I remember well. I came down later on vaccations both winter 75, 79 & 80. Take care all friends out there. Peter Gasso

If I ever had mixed feelings about computers and www,Heidi's website has definitly changed that. I lived in Yekepa from 67-74(B2,B52,F66).Years deeply etched into my soul.It is incredibly exciting being able to see names of people I knew so well so many years ago suddenly reappearing out of nowhere, and having instant access to communication. Anyway, send me a phone-number and I'll give you (whoever) a call.USA(305)296-74

When I first came across the terrible pictures from ol' Yekepa I became very SAD. Of course I should've known, but my memories of Liberia are still so vivid and alive that I couldn't imagine the destruction of Yekepa in its full extent. I have always had the impression that despite the Civil War it should be possible to return to the Eden of my youth - but now it's gone. But after a while my grief turned into surprise and joy and I became very HAPPY when I recognised the names of my long lost schoolmates from Yekepa: Trond, Anna, Eva, Magnus, Börge, Roger, Stefan and many many others. I spent my 7th, 8th and 9th grades in Yekepa in the years of 75-77. I lived at area F with my younger brother Torbjörn, sister Vanja and my parents Gösta (at Maint. dept.) and Marianne (at times working on the Red Cross 'Jungle-bus'). If anyone remember I rode a terrible noisy norwegian motorbike called Tempo and I also used to participate at the monthly go-kart races (sometimes winning, sometimes loosing). I believe my years in Yekepa are the most important ones in my life - I can still remember the nightly smells of P-market, the trips into the bushes, the poolbar, the cinema...You name it! After the years in Liberia we moved about a lot in Sweden, but finally I have settled down on the countryside outside Göteborg with Ulrica and our two daughters (5 and 3). I am currently working as a University teacher at the Law faculty, Gothenburg university. If my name doesn't ring a bell it's propably because I was then more known under the nick-name Bollox... The years go by! Finally: Thank You Heidi for Your impressive efforts of bringing back memories, friends and the hope of a possible future. The Reunion in 2005 is an excellent idea!

I have such fond memories of my years in Liberia. It was a once in a life time opportunity to make friends with people from around the world and to experience such a different culture. The people of Liberia were so welcoming to us and my heart breaks for the tragedies that have occurred there over the last decade. It is a beautiful country and I hope that peace is soon restored. Thank you, Heidi, for putting this site together and allowing friendships to be renewed.

Hello to everyone!! It is very weird but today I had an urge to surf the web and see if there was anything on Liberia. Then I found this site, very well done, my compliments. I also have very nice memories of Liberia. The school, the beaches, the climate and most of all the freedom we had. I also viewed the photos and a lot of memories came back. I also still have a lot of photos, but can somebody inform me how to get them on this site? Needless to say I also miss my friends I had in Liberia. I took the freedom to mail the link of this site directly over to Canada (Jack Vandam and his wife Olga), we still are in touch. Also my mother Maria still has contact with Caroline Smit (now living in Spain) and Dick DeRooij and wife Ineke (living in Twello NL). If somebody still remembers me, my sister Alice or my brother Marc please feel free to contact us.

Hi Heidi! What a great deal of work you´ve put in! I really enjoy watching old pictures even if I had left Yekepa in 1976. Internet is a great tool for connecting people, and especially in our case where we came from all over, stayed a couple of years and took of again. I was six years old when we moved to yekepa in 1968, we first lived next to Mathiesens, I got this adress from Christian the other day. My father was one of the doctors in Yekepa, Kell Jakobsen (remember Björnligan??) and my mother Harriet was employed as a socialworker and started up women- and children groups. Please, feel free to contact me by email, I´m curious about what happend to my old friends..

I was born and raised in Liberia...I left when I was 171/2. I loved visiting Yekepa. So many memories from there. I lived near Monrovia but occasionally my parents would take me and my brothers to Yekepa for vacation. I loved the picnics on the mountains of iron ore, the swimming pool, and the scenery...seeing Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Ivory Coast all at once. And yes, I did travel the train a couple of times with some friends...it wasn't all that bad either. In Yekepa, we often stayed with friends and once stayed at a Swedish home near a guest house. I loved the European look of the houses. When I was six, my grandparents, my parents, and brothers went to Yekepa in the summer. My grandfather is Swedish, and we were invited to attend the the festival of the all summer's night. That was quite unusual to attend. You're right Heidi, Yekepa was amazing...I'll never forget it.

Heidi, I am a Liberian now living in the USA. I went to junior high school in Sanniquellie, near Yekepa, in Nimba County. I came across your URL while surfing Liberian-connection website. All I can say is, thank you, friend of Liberia, for bringing back so many good memories. You are really a gem. I had family and friends in Yekepa and can attest to many of the good things your classmates they have been writing about. I also checked out your family album. You have a lovely family. Dear Heidi, dear readers, I am desperatly trying to find a friend of mine. We lost contact after I had to leave Liberia, to commence my education in Germany and I have so far tried nearly all ways of finding her. Maybe you could give me a hint or even know where she´s living now. Her name is Merete Johansson (I do hope the spelling is all right) and her father, back then, worked for CEMENCO. Thank you very much in advance. Yours sincerely Robert. That´s a really great site for someone who lived in Liberia for 16. years and hasn´t been able to return sinc the outbreak of the civil war in 89/90. Just great. Thanx & so long. As soon as I´ve got my homepage ready (including a lot of information and photos about Liberia and Bong Mine) I´ll let you know. Cheers, Robert

Hi Heidi! What a great home page! I love to hear about Liberia since I don´t remember much of it myself, I was only two years old when my parents and I moved back to Sweden. I guess you remember more of me than I do of you. :) Well anyone who likes to fill me in with details of the country where I was born, feel free to drop me an email or an ICQ message! Love to you all.

My family lived in Yekepa somewhere around '76 - '78. My Dad (Martin Krynen) worked for LAMCO and, of course, my brother Nicholas and I went to the International School. We both have great memories of our few years there. The freedom we had, that amazing pepper chicken, palm butter, travelling by railcar. . . Now I live in Buenos Aires, with my husband and daughter Claire (4 years old). Mum & Dad (Martin & Judy Krynen) are in Australia running a business, and my brother has two boys (3 years and 6 months) and also lives in Australia with his partner Tracy. Well, that's the family update for now.

Born in Liberia -71. My dad, Lars Landberg, was working with maintenance. My mother, Berit, took care of me. Two more brothers, Tomas, born in Liberia -74, and Anders, born in Sweden -78. We left Yekepa and moved back to Sweden -76. I don't have that good memories of Liberia, celebrating my fifth birthday when we came to Sweden, but I've met several of the liberians back in Sweden and abroad in recent years. Right now I work as a political advisor for one of the vice mayors of Gothenburg. On the wall in my livingroom are two paintings by a swedish artist, showing the beach of Buchanan, and one of the oretrains in the forest close to Yekepa. One of the few ways to try to remember my background, my place of birth and the - as far as I can remember - good and relaxed atmosphere we had in Liberia.

Hi , Im now living in San diego, CA. I am 26 yrs old, and I was in Liberia during the summer of 1988, (Sam Doe era), I was involved with the group, Teen Mission International. There were 39 American Students in all, and we worked during that summer to finish construction of the Pillar of Fire mission, located about 8 miles east of River Cess on the Coastline. Liberia is an incredible place, I love the people i met, and I've been horrified to watch the constant upheaval there. IF ANYONE READING THIS HAS INFORMATION ON THE PILLAR OF FIRE MISSION, RIVER CESS REGION, OR LINKS TO MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE E-MAIL ME, I'D LOVE TO HEAR OF OTHER EXPERIENCES THERE.

I was a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Lofa County (Foya Tengia)from 1987-89, and although that perhaps doesn't technically qualify me to be a member of this site, I did spend some time in Yekepa and the pool, restaurant, golf course, and disco. As a result, I lay claim that I left some part of me there at some time. Anyway, nice site, brings back memories. And though I probably know none of you, we did experience many of the same things, from the beautiful scenery to the sharing of food with locals. It was also nice to drive on a real road for a while too! Ciao.

Wow! So many names that I recognise from my days in Liberia, Colin Cronin, John McLean, Vince Benjamin and I am sure there are more. I was in Liberia from 1965 to 1974 with my father Andrew, known as Andy, who drove the locos from Mt Nimba to Buchanan, my mother Stella and sisters Dianne and Catriona, who was born there. We lived in EU22 and I have many happy memories of days at the swimming pool and then a trip to Maddys for the lovely ice cream! My favorite meal? Pepper Chicken of course! I am still in touch with Lindsay Bell and Mrs Gordon, previously Mrs Rice, attended my wedding in 1987. I have not had time to visit all of your site but it has been a great experience and I am sure I will be back often! I have some pictures from Liberia that I will scan and send to you in the New Year. In the meantime, thanks again for a marvellous site and all the best for Christmas and 2000 to everyone who lived and/or worked in Liberia. Lesleà

Heidi, I finally got a chance to sign your guest book. Damn, you have done a helluva job! Keep up the good work. This site is fantastic. This is the site that all LAMCOERS have been waiting for. I am confident that this will become the vehicle to reunite us all again. I have already begun spreading the good news about your site to everyone that I know whom once lived in Yekepa or Buchana. As a matter of fact I will take some pictures of some of the Lamcoers that I am still in contact with and send them to you. Maybe you can create a section 'What do they look like now?' After viewing the pictures on your site, I feel I know your entire family personally. Give them all my regards. My brother, Rustum, is trying to get in touch with Bodil's brother, Bjorn Ekrem. If you know his whereabouts, can you send me the information? I will respond to your email soon. Take care and best of luck with this site.your friend'ho... little devil'.I would l also like to take this time to give a 'shout out'(that's hello) to all of my fellow Lamcoers where ever you are. Because of Heidi, we can now reminisce and re-live our past. Let's take advantage of this very special opportunity. Pass the good word. And for anyone who don't know or remember me, just think of the GREATEST PEPPER CHICKEN IN THE WHOLE WILD WORLD! So long.

What a fantastic surprise! Jørgen, my eldest son (now 47!) called me a few minutes ago and told me about this wonderful website. This is just great, Heidi, and by this initiative I'm sure that you are rendering a valuable opportunity to meet again some of our good friends and colleages from the unforgettable years in Liberia. I came to Grassfield, Yekepa one of the first days of January in 1964 to work as a Budget officer. My family - my wife Kari, my daughter Sissel (now 50), sons Jørgen (47) and Ole-Martin (now 42) - joined me in March the same year. I had my office in Grassfield, where we all were living until we moved to Area F in Yekepa in 1966. I've browsed your index of persons a little, Heidi, but I'm going to follow up to the very end! So far, the only one of my closer friends and colleages I've met there is you, Bernt Karlsson Yilakalle! Not so long ago Terje Hauge and I had the opportunity to take advantage of your Liberian mission for Caritas in our futile attempts to do something for the suffering people. Tjänare, Kalle! Thank you again for what your did for us in those disastreous years! Do I meet you again here? We do also have Liberia and our happy years there in our hearts forever.

I was a research engineer for Bethlehem Steel Corp., a partner in Lamco, and was sent to Liberia in 1971 to do a study at Yekepa on the Mt. Gbahm orebody, and in 1973 to trouble shoot problems in the Buchanan plant treating Mt. Tokadeh ore. I had my wife and daughter with me in the 1973 trip. At Yekepa in 1971 I reported to John Berge, Chief Geologist, and in 1973 reported to Stig Premfors, Process Superintendent. Both trips were successful and I enjoyed the friendship and hospitality of all that I worked with or met. The trips to Liberia were most memorable, and I am deeply sorry as others must be also who worked for Lamco, or who lived there with their parents.

Hi everyone and thanks Heidi! Can't be said enough times, you've done a great job with the site! I lived in Yekepa 1974-77 and went back on the Christmas-charter with my brother Jörgen a couple of times. My parents, Inga-Brita (teacher) and Hans (LAMCO/Planning & Maintenance Dept's), moved down to Buchanan and stayed until 1982. Going through the site and the guestbook memories are brought back: friends and motorbikes, pepparchicken and Club-beer, P-market and New-Year skinny-dipping ... more memories than what can be listed! Again, thanks for a great site. See you ya!

Hi! And thanks for your initiative, I believe it will be appreciated by many! I have lived in Yekepa as well, if I don't remember wrong I stayed at area J (The private area). The year was 84/85 and I finished my 9:th grade at the Lamco - correspondance school (In Swedish). After thet year I moved to Voinjama Lofa County. In the interior of Liberia. I stayed there for a year and helped out my parents who worked as a missionaries for the Swedih Pentecostal mission there. That year was one of my greatest, as young. Had a lot of Peace core friends there as well. Now I work with young people in Sweden, but do occasionally travel down to Sierra Leone. Have made quite a few trips. (6). Wishing you the best, Lasse

Hi there!! This sure brings back memeories, I feel dissy. I moved to Yekepa with my parents in 1978, I was then 3 years old. Just before I started 3rd grade we moved to Buchanan, in 1987 we went back to Denmark. As everyone else I only have good memories from Libereia, and ever since we left, there has been a hole in my hart. I feel that Liberia is my homecountry, because that is where I have all my childhood memories. As others probably also have experienced it is very hard to share with someone who has not been there. In Buchanan I had a horse Kipling was his name, he used to be at the stables in Yekepa, he was almost 18 years old, but still going strong. My freind Lisa ans I took good care of him, he was the only horse at the stables, so sometimes he would break out, go up to the road, and look at traffic, I guess he got a little bored when we were not there, eventhough we almost lived there. What great times, I do not remember ever being bored. There was always someone to play with, and things to explore. And Sunday's at Silver Beach...it was as if we lived in our own little paradise. I am currently living in Dallas, TX, USA, where I am working for a danish freightforwarding company. I would be nice to hear from others that were in Buchanan at this time, send an email.

Hi! Nice page. I lived in Liberia for three years, 1984-87. My family lived in Voinjama, Lofa county, but my brother and I attended school in Yekepa. I had Mrs. Milton as homeroom teacher in sixth-grade and she sure made me learn English fast. And to stand straight. :-) I left Liberia 13 years ago, I was fifteen then. If any old friends or foes read this, feel free to write! Right now I live in Umea, Sweden, attending the Umea University of fine arts.

Hi! I lived in Yekepa from 1975 to 1978. Some of you from those days may remember a guy playing trumpet all the time? Well, that was my father Bo. My mother Meeli played golf and tennis and my little brother Jan was looking for golfballs in the bush - almost all the time. I went through school from grade 7 - 9 those years so I have many happy memories of golf, tennis, pool, school, football, pepper soup, youth club, P-market...etc etc. Today I live in the south part of Stockholm. I have two small boys and my lovely wife, Kristina. My mother and father also lives in Stockholm but unfortunately my little brother Jan has left us. He was killed in a car accident in 1995. Killed - by young man, driving on the wrong side of the highway - drunk!!! Life is a bitch at times because the young punk survived. Jans girlfriend and their twins, Max and Ola, survived luckily enough. Heidi, thanks for the wondowful memories that this site brings me!

At last we (Heidi's mother and father) are here to say hello to all of you! We got our PC to Egil's 60-years birthday (in February) so now it's no excuse for not showing up. It is fantastic to see how many known names and faces there are here on Heidi's pages. We have lived in Spain for the last 13 years, owned a cafe named "La's Kos'os". We sold it 1st of January, but Egil is still working offshore, and he hopes to keep on working for at least another 2-3 years. In the summers we are in Norway (outside Bergen) for about 2 months, fishing and meeting the rest of the family. We send our love to all of you and hope to see many of you at the reunion. Thank you Heidi for all the work you have done to make this possible, we know how much time you have spent on your PC. Greetings to all from Elin and Egil.

I am very happy to see and hear from Mrs. Bobbie Milton with family. Mrs. Milton was a respected and admired teacher who influenced my life in the period 1971-79, an influence which is still with me every day. Elke was in my grade and Rochelle, who is a little older than us, I had a secret crush on. We were all neighbours in Area R. I miss those good years. Liberia, our friends and my memories will be with me for life, and have an important place in my heart! I now live in Stavanger, the major oil city of Norway. 3 kids, married to Kristin who is an Air Hostess with SAS (gets us around the world). This summer Torbjørn and Lisbeth Ranefell (the Principal) payed us a visit. A good chance to refresh old memories. Everybody: Please E-Mail me, if only for a hello.

I have not been back since 1989. The war is over and yet it has not even started for me, because the truth is that until I go back to Liberia I will never fully realize what has happened to my home and how much suffering the people went through - and still are going through. I am looking for Joseph Kormah who lived in Area M (Yekepa) or somewhere close by. He used to work for Mr. Kamal Zahalan in Area D and later in Area F. I am also looking for the Saad family who lived on Jamaica Road, Monrovia. If anyone has any information - please contact me by e-mail. Thank you. God bless and give strength to the people who survived and God forgive those who sat by and watched as thousands of innocent people were slaughtered. They are still watching - in Sierra Leone.

Wonderful memories, especially of the ex-pats and the beaches. I am greatly saddened by what has happened in recent years, the Liberian people didn't deserve that!! I'd love to contact anyone who remembers us and reminisce. It all seems such a long time ago (it is!!!).

This is wonderful! I'm sitting in my office crying for my homeland and wondering where most of my friends are. It's good to know that we are still somehow linked ... thank God for modern technology. If anyone remembers me from Lamco please contact me via e-mail.What wonderful memories of home.....Peace. Edna

Heidi, this is a great site. Thanks alot. I've seen so many names and at the moment, memories are flowing back. I was a student at the International School in Buchanan until 1980. I lived in Buchanan (house 402) with my parents Henry Stewart( who worked in the lab at the washing plant), my mother Elsie Stewart (who worked in the personnel dept in Buchanan) and my younger sister Jeanne (Gigi). Anyone who remembers me, please help me have a "mild" heart attack due to receipt of a delightful surprise email from a long lost school mate. I hope to be at the reunion this year. See you all then.

Thank´s a lot for this web-site. It give us all possibility to deal experiences from Liberia. We visited Liberia and Yekepa in Mars 1999. It was a follow-up visit in a feeding and recreation project run by the YMCA in Liberia and supported by the Swedish YWCA-YMCA. People in Yekepa are longing for contacts with old friends from the Lamco time. In Mars 99 most people were back from their escape during the war. Most of the family buildings were occupied but most of them were in a terrible status. Yekepa needs help. No electric, no water and drain, a few schools, the hospital still in use but they were missing almost everything. But people still have hope for a better future and they need support. The local YMCA in Yekepa is doing great. Ann and Janne Söderberg

Dear Heidi. My name is Gert Tejlmann, and my wife´s is Ruth. This was very exiting and funny, when we found out from our friends Landschuetzer in Austria, this wonderful website. Unfortunately, we do not know you, but we remember your father very well. If I am not wrong, I mean he worked in typewriter shop. We were in Yekepa from Feb. 1969 to June 1975. I was working as a computer programmer in the computer office, which in the beginning just was a small wooden hut, but later on moved to the new Main Office. My wife was many times acting as management secretary in various departments during vacation time. I was also very active as radio amateur and I had my red/white antenna mast in our garden at F 15. I have also been a member of the Go-cart club, both as driver and as a board member. We, like you and many others, also think, that this was the most wonderful time in our life. There were so many things that made it so. Especially, we were very fund of the climate and that is one thing we miss here in Denmark. We will send you a photo for the guestbook as soon as I succeed in scanning it in and send it by E-mail. I am not yet a specialist in PC computers. Thank you again for your great work with this WEB site. WE have so many times talked about Liberia and all these people we knew and what has happened to this beutiful country. Many regards from Denmark Ruth and Gert Tejlmann

Can tou tell me what the Recreation Budilding was like in the period when you were in Yekepa? It was taken over by Fritz Massaquoi when we left Liberia - what happened? I'd like to hear from any 'Yekepa-ites' who read this message! Best wishes, Peter Thejll

Thank you for providing such a great site of your experience in Liberia. I lived in Liberia from '75 to '77 in Buchanan as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching in Bassa High School. I married a Liberian women in '77 and after living one year in America, we moved back to Liberian in 79 and stayed until 84 in Bong Mine. My daughter was born in '79 in Bong Mine. My step son, Hans Noa, was born in 71 and attend LAMCO school from 75 to 82. His father, Randell Noa, is German. We move back for Liberia to the U.S. in 84 and have kept in contact with many friends and family in Liberia and the U.S. Hans lived with his father in Germany until '95 and then joined his mother in America. Thanks again. Phil

Our family lived in Buchanan 1974-77. Cecilia, our eldest daughter, was nine and our youngest daughter, Gisela, was three years old when we arrived. Our son Erik was born at the new hospital in Buchanan in 1977. My husband Kalle worked at the Maintenance Department as co-ordinator and I myself worked parttime as an executive secretary when the ordinary one was on vacation. I also worked with different projects with Birger Johansson and Joel Ekström. I was engaged in the Welfare Organization and different committees arranging outdoor activities and entertainment in the community and during one year I was the Chairman of the Recreation Club. We had a marvellous time in Liberia and the friends we made there are still our closest and dearest.
